AfrikaBurn 2024: 29 April to 5 May

2014 Theme – We Want Your Ideas!

Wanna know what the theme for AfrikaBurn 2014 is? So do we! It’s your AfrikaBurn, and the theme is yours to suggest – so get involved, have a long think, write it down and send it on in!
But first, please read the following: Don’t throw words in without consideration: think about it.

Ideally the theme is engaging, thought-provoking, stimulating and versatile. It can be a phrase. Or a single word. But whatever it is, think about it and submit a written motivation for your theme suggestion – minimum 50 words, 500 words max.
Include pictures if you like. Theme proposals without a written motivation will not be considered. All theme proposals will be presented anonymously, so please don’t mention your name in your proposal. Your email address will be separated from your submission before themes are considered by the creative committee.

Here is some background information:
The theme is a point of engagement or inspiration, it’s a conversational starting point, a proposition for discussion, it’s a post to rub up against, and it’s a platform to dream from. Do with it what you like. There are no theme police, so if your art or performance is not in line with the theme, don’t sweat it. But it’s there, so use it to inform your creations if you wish.

If you hadn’t read it before, here’s the AfrikaBurn credo to help inform your thinking:
“AfrikaBurn is a participant created movement – an experiment in inclusive community building, decommodification, creativity and radical self-reliance. A chance to invent the world anew.”
Think about AfrikaBurn as means to a better society, or a mirror, a jester, a shaman for society at large. Consider where AfrikaBurn is in its evolution. Think about themes which reference the present or future. It’s all up to you.

We’re looking forward to seeing your ideas!

GOT THEME SUGGESTIONS?

DEADLINE: we need your theme proposals by noon 20 June 2013.

Thanks!
