Vagabonds

Participants needed:
Becoming a Vagabond isn’t just signing up for a camp – it means becoming part of our co-created experience and do-ocracy where your time, energy, and enthusiasm are your greatest gifts 💖In 2026, we plan to redesign our Sky Lounge, expand our workshops, and deepen our Vaga-bonds, so we can put your creativity, DIY skills, and good vibes to good use. We also need lots of willing hands and enthusiastic souls to contribute to our logistics, kitchen, and design teams. 💅Last year’s camp brought together 22 different nationalities, and a big part of our legacy is welcoming newcomers to AfrikaBurn and embracing their unique contributions and collaborations. We’re excited to co-create our AfrikaBurn 2026 Vagabonds camp with you!

Project Description:

The Vagabonds is a growing international collective of burners who have organised theme camps at AfrikaBurn since 2019 and Borderland since 2022. In the default world, we are a diverse group of travelers, entrepreneurs, nomads, free spirits, creatives, and dreamers.

Initially inspired by the aesthetics of Swedish artist Simon Stålenhag and his Vagabond robots, this once Nordic-centric community has since grown to over 200 members who come to meet from all corners of the world to connect, co-create, and co-live.

We gather in the dust and dirt to celebrate life beyond the edges of civilization; to recharge our batteries, sweat out our inner demons, and dance like the universe is watching.

Details of Gift:

🍁 Reflections Lounge: Our Scandinavian forest-themed lounge hosts workshops and massages by day and chill music by night, affording a cozy space to relax, connect, cuddle, and reflect, away from the madness (and the techno!).

💆 Massages: Our signature daily massages are one of the Vagabonds’ most gratefully received gifts. From 11am to 2pm every day, we soothe dusty and dance-worn Burner bodies with a relaxing 10-15-minute massage.

☁️ Sky Lounge: Our twinkling Sky Lounge affords panoramic views of the playa without leaving the Binnekring or partying atop an Art Car (both of which you should also do). Sink into a floating cuddle puddle in our lounge nets or gaze out over the neon desertscape.

🪵 Woods in the Cabin Our inside-out cabin in the woods brings the forest wilderness indoors, transforming our (ex-)sauna into a cozy hideaway for intimate workshops and shared moments around a crackling fire.

🦄 Unicorn Room Our playful, unicorn-inspired space is brought back year after year by popular demand. Step inside the candy-coloured daydream to reconnect with your inner child – actual children are also welcome!

Joining Requirements:

All camp members are expected to contribute to planning ahead of the Burn, on the ground, and afterwards. Build will start on Friday/Saturday and strike will go until Monday noon-ish.During the burn, camp shifts are shared evenly between camp members, and include cooking, cleanup, and other camp duties, as well as gifts like massages and hosting workshops. We also highly encourage all Vagabonds to take a shift at AfrikaBurn (Rangers, Sanctuary, etc). The camp fee will be $350-ish USD (TBD).

Additional Details:

We’re a camp of about 50 people with a shade structure to camp under, showers, electricity, a kitchen, and a private communal space where we enjoy a hot meal together every evening. It has everything you need to feel at home – cuddles, connection, and community. 😌

One Response

  1. Hi Vagabonds team,
I’m really excited about the possibility of joining Vagabonds at AfrikaBurn 2026. I love the idea of being part of a co‑created, international collective where people bring their creativity, enthusiasm, and good vibes together to build something meaningful and joyful in the dust. Your focus on connection, welcoming diversity, shared effort, and playful exploration really resonates with me.
I bring energy, good humor, and a strong commitment to collaboration, showing up fully before, during, and after the Burn with care and openness. I’m happy to contribute to planning, logistics, kitchen, design, shared camp duties, and any shifts needed, and I’m also down to help host and support experiences that foster connection and joy within the camp and beyond. I value spaces where culture, creativity, and community meet, and I’d love to add my time and energy to co‑create that with you.
Thanks for considering my request, I’d be thrilled to bring my spirit to the Vagabonds community and help make our collective experience unforgettable.
    With love and good vibes,
    Davide Cassisi

Theme Camp
Enos’ Nookie

Spacemonkey Enos crashed his rocket into the desert and decided to create his cozy safe-space (aka nookie) in the far corners of Tankwa Town. There he welcomes other cosmic travelers ever since. His guests can enjoy audio-visual experiences in a jungle of cosmic grooves in his safe, but wild place. Follow the landing lights towards the burning rocket and let your inner monkey loose at our eclectic jols powered by a wonderful sound system. Our camp where we live and rest is located a few hundred meters away from our stage and is our private safe space where we eat and hang together, refresh ourselves and get our well deserved rest. The camp provides safe shelter, drinking water, collectively prepares a fresh warm meal daily, builds a shower, shares knowledge in event planning, building, stage production, light programming, sound engineering, awareness, vibe creation, burn principles and more.  Get in touch with us!

La Marmelada Orchestra

La Marmelada Orchestra is a spontaneous, collaborative band forming in the dust of Tankwa Town. Musicians from different backgrounds come together to create live sessions that exist only once — improvised, playful, and alive. Strings, horns, percussion, synths, voices, strange instruments, familiar ones — everything can find its place. The orchestra emerges during the week through open rehearsals, jams, and experiments at La Casa Timeless, eventually leading to collective performances where individual voices blend into one living sound. No fixed repertoire. No strict genre.Just musicians listening to each other and building something real in the moment. If you like the idea of making music with people you’ve never met before — in the middle of the desert — this might be for you.
