Home of the Psychic Cat

Participants needed:
We look for all kinds of people. We like diversity. We do want people that actually follow “Radical Self Reliance.” We are a laid back camp that focuses on sharing and jumping in to volunteer.

Project Description:

Home of the Psychic Cat

We are a collection of long time burners, some over 20 years. We are adherents to “Radical Self Reliance.” We all tend to volunteer all over the event. We hail from all over as well, some being professional expatriates. We like to enjoy ourselves but also feel a need to help others. The Psychic Cat is a long time psychic reader here at AfrikaBurn, doing literally thousands of readings over the last 10 years. The objective is to help people find themselves, both through readings and life coaching. We also provide a croquet pitch for folks to come and enjoy our peculiar form of Antarctic Croquet.

Our camp is not a fee camp, we don’t charge. We don’t have rigid schedules of assignments. We are Self Reliant, we share and are motivated to help out where we feel we need to. It is a, as we feel, closer to the ideal that Larry Harvey put forward. Many of us knew him personally, quite a character. We would love folks to join us to be part of our simple vision. We embrace like minded or those that are not, we kind of embrace diversity. Everybody offers something to make the experience special. The spiritually minded are always welcome and the fun loving kind as well. We are a community of ant minded and our friends also grasshoppers. Both are cool and fun. Our camp is a little community to come to and refresh and we don’t want to detract in you getting the best experience you can get from the event, go out and have a party! Come back and recharge.

We tend to have plenty of wine and refreshments. We encourage discussions of current and historical events. If you want to talk metaphysics or politics, we love it and have a great time debating it. Opinions of all walks are welcome. Don’t expect a bunch of monks nodding their heads in unison, we love to have different views and want to hear yours. You might have something we never considered. So if you’re looking for a camp that is laid back, but focused on peoples best inner experience, check us out.  Or, if you’re looking to find a group of head bangers, well you may be disappointed, there are other camps for that. Our camp has been located on the outer ring, with an excellent sunset view. As you may expect, sundowners are kind of a thing with us.

So perhaps a little story is in order. The Psychic Cat used to build the airport at Burning Man. Larry Harvey would fly in. The Cat would end up taking him around for the day. So he would bring him to the Man. All the volunteers would cluster around him literally saying “Lawrey, Lawrey.” Repeated at each site we would visit. Hundreds of folk acting like he was some kind of chain smoking messiah. So the Cat was taking him back to his lodgings, seeing he was a bit on edge from all this. “Larry, I know everybody always wants a piece of you and it must get overwhelming.” He nods. “If you’re strung out, give me a call on the radio and I’ll come get you.”  “When I get a bit on edge, I grab the truck, my radio, a table and a chair along with a bottle of wine.” “I call Perimeter and say “Perimeter, Dogpilot.” “Go ahead Dogpilot.” “Need to go out to the runway and “Calibrate the Windsock.”” “I go out to the end of the runway and set up my table, drink a bit of wine and watch the event from a mile away watch the sun set, listen and relax.” ’”Larry, looks up, takes a deep drag on his ever-present cigarette, with the thousand mile stare, exhales strongly, “That’s the way the Burn used to be.”

That’s the way we are. Join us, Calibrate your Windsock.

Details of Gift:

We do readings and provide a fantastic croquet pitch

Joining Requirements:

The persons joining our camp should be fairly self reliant, however we do offer support for those that have fewer resources. We share and help each other to make everybody have an equally good experience. In general we want our camp members to be human.

Additional Details:

We could always use a few more with talent in psychic readings. The Cat gets tired, needs naps and catnip.

Mutant Vehicle
Bombocart

TL/DR: Bringing a mutant vehicle to AfrikaBurn: a wall of speakers, pulled by a post apocalyptic trike. We are building a mutant vehicle consisting of a Mad Max style trike, pulling a small trailer/cart with a DJ booth and sound system (think Jamaican style wall of speakers). We will be playing Drum&Bass, Industrial, Old School Jungle, Breaks, Metal, etc. Anything but the “fluffy stuff” you hear all over the burn. Our trike is currently sounding like this: link to video Various mechanics have recommended to us to just forget about this trike since it sounds like the gearbox is poked (the three bottom gears are buggered) and it will cost to much to fix. If you are a mechanical genius that wants to help us get (and keep) this thing running on the Binnenkring, we need you! It also still very much looks like a trike instead of a mutant vehicle, so we could use a hand in decorating and mutantizing it, as well as our trailer, which looks very much like “just a trailer”. We also need to add a tow bar to our trike to get it top pull our trailer/cart, so if you a pro(ficient) welder, we could very much use your help as well! Follow us on our blog, bombocart.wordpress.com where you’ll all find links to our social media.

Artwork
KwaNjakazi

KwaNjakazi is a participatory installation that embodies the core principles of AfrikaBurn through emotional connection, creative collaboration, and shared storytelling. The centerpiece—a human-sized dog house—symbolizes comfort, loyalty, and unconditional companionship, offering a reflective space for participants, particularly those missing their canine companions while on the playa. Guided by Participation and Creative Expression, the interior houses three large canvases and shared art materials, inviting anyone to contribute freely to a collective, evolving artwork. In alignment with Communal Effort and Immediacy, participants are encouraged to engage in the present moment—creating together, sharing stories, and forming spontaneous connections. A recording setup facilitates podcast-style conversations reflecting on the 11 Principles of AfrikaBurn, reinforcing Civic Responsibility, Ubuntu, and Radical Inclusion by amplifying diverse voices and lived experiences within the community. Through nostalgia, warmth, and vulnerability, KwaNjakazi creates a space of belonging and emotional resonance. By blending installation, performance, and storytelling, the work honors the human–canine bond while deepening participants’ engagement with AfrikaBurn’s values, ultimately enriching the collective festival experience.

Stage
Concept (The Plane!)

Concept is a massive (17m x15m), fixed-in-place, winged plane designed to land on the dusty expanse of AfrikaBurn. A sound-powered vessel of freedom, music, and magic. The open end of the fuselage will house a DJ booth, while the wings (7.5m long each!) become an interactive dancefloor or performance stage!
