Concept (The Plane!)

Participants needed:
We are looking for artists, performers (live music, acts etc) and DJs.

Project Description:

Concept is a massive (17m x15m), fixed-in-place, winged plane designed to land on the dusty expanse of AfrikaBurn. A sound-powered vessel of freedom, music, and magic. The open end of the fuselage will house a DJ booth, while the wings (7.5m long each!) become an interactive dancefloor or performance stage!

Details of Gift:

This is a space for connection, transformation, and losing your mind to music under stars that don’t judge. Set to debut at Afrikaburn 2026, Concept will transform the playa into a flying sonic experience. Our team of artists, builders, performers, DJs, and dreamers are coming together to create a place where music and experience moves us. Expect a big, high-quality sound rig (think Void or D&B), all the lights, and maybe even a fog machine or two! A Final Word We’re not just building a plane. We’re building a place where creativity flies. Where we all take off together. We hope you will join us!

Joining Requirements:

No requirements – just your time at the event to help us make Concept a truly special space in the playa!

Mutant Vehicle
Bombocart

TL/DR: Bringing a mutant vehicle to AfrikaBurn: a wall of speakers, pulled by a post apocalyptic trike. We are building a mutant vehicle consisting of a Mad Max style trike, pulling a small trailer/cart with a DJ booth and sound system (think Jamaican style wall of speakers). We will be playing Drum&Bass, Industrial, Old School Jungle, Breaks, Metal, etc. Anything but the “fluffy stuff” you hear all over the burn. Our trike is currently sounding like this: link to video Various mechanics have recommended to us to just forget about this trike since it sounds like the gearbox is poked (the three bottom gears are buggered) and it will cost to much to fix. If you are a mechanical genius that wants to help us get (and keep) this thing running on the Binnenkring, we need you! It also still very much looks like a trike instead of a mutant vehicle, so we could use a hand in decorating and mutantizing it, as well as our trailer, which looks very much like “just a trailer”. We also need to add a tow bar to our trike to get it top pull our trailer/cart, so if you a pro(ficient) welder, we could very much use your help as well! Follow us on our blog, bombocart.wordpress.com where you’ll all find links to our social media.

Artwork
KwaNjakazi

KwaNjakazi is a participatory installation that embodies the core principles of AfrikaBurn through emotional connection, creative collaboration, and shared storytelling. The centerpiece—a human-sized dog house—symbolizes comfort, loyalty, and unconditional companionship, offering a reflective space for participants, particularly those missing their canine companions while on the playa. Guided by Participation and Creative Expression, the interior houses three large canvases and shared art materials, inviting anyone to contribute freely to a collective, evolving artwork. In alignment with Communal Effort and Immediacy, participants are encouraged to engage in the present moment—creating together, sharing stories, and forming spontaneous connections. A recording setup facilitates podcast-style conversations reflecting on the 11 Principles of AfrikaBurn, reinforcing Civic Responsibility, Ubuntu, and Radical Inclusion by amplifying diverse voices and lived experiences within the community. Through nostalgia, warmth, and vulnerability, KwaNjakazi creates a space of belonging and emotional resonance. By blending installation, performance, and storytelling, the work honors the human–canine bond while deepening participants’ engagement with AfrikaBurn’s values, ultimately enriching the collective festival experience.
