We are looking for people who: Value community, respect, and collaboration Are kind, grounded, and emotionally aware Enjoy contributing rather than consuming Are open to African sounds, food, culture, and collective care Can hold space for others and themselves You do not need to be a DJ or artist — you simply need to arrive with presence, curiosity, and a willingness to participate.

Project Description:

Imbizo Lounge (formerly Leisure & Chill, soon to fully transition into Imbizo Lounge) is a welcoming, African‑inspired gathering space at AfrikaBurn, rooted in the spirit of ubuntu and imbizo — a coming together to share, listen, rest, and connect.

Imbizo Lounge offers an authentic taste of what Afrika is about — through food, music, rhythm, vibe, and deep human connection. It reflects how we gather, how we host, how we move together, while remaining open to learning from and blending with other cultures. Over the past three years, our camp has been a beautiful collaboration between South Africans and Europeans, infusing diverse backgrounds to create something truly magical together.

This is a lounge‑style sanctuary where music, storytelling, culture, and community intersect. We bring the drum — and you will feel the beat inside of you. Our sound is not just heard; it is felt, grounding people into presence and collective rhythm.

We curate deep, soulful soundscapes including Afro house, Amapiano, deep house, African electronic, and traditional influences, paired with intentional spaces for rest, conversation, and cultural exchange. Imbizo Lounge is not about spectacle or excess, but about presence, warmth, and meaningful human connection.

Our space is designed as a home away from home in the desert — a place where Burners can slow down, feel held, and reconnect with themselves and others through sound, shared moments, and African hospitality. Beyond music and connection, we also share African‑inspired dishes, including our much‑loved South African braai, offered as an expression of care, generosity, and togetherness.

We offer:

Carefully curated African and Afro-diasporic music journeys

Additional Details:

Imbizo Lounge is a co-created space. Everyone who joins helps shape its energy.

We encourage open communication, mutual respect, and checking in with one another — especially in the intensity of the desert environment. This is a camp for people who want to be part of something intentional, culturally rooted, and heart-led.

If you feel called to contribute to a space that honours African expression, slowness, and meaningful connection, Imbizo Lounge may be your desert home.

We gather. We listen. We rest. We connect.

Tracings of Impermanence

Tracings of Impermanence is a land-based spatial installation for the Tankwa /Karoo desert ecology. The project is conceived as a cartographic sigil created from the earth it stands upon and is raised as a witness to the entanglement of species and forces across time. We propose this structure as an invitation to sense the desert as a living field of forces and lineages: wind, water, heat, dust; migration routes of birds and animals; indigenous flora; the movements of pastoralist peoples suchas the San and Khoekhoe; the treaded path of the voortrekker, and of course an ancient ocean that once covered this basin, leaving mineral memory in the playa.
