The Heck Force is recruiting. Fantastic! Incredible! Who the freaking heck are they?
Glad you asked. The Heck Force is the collective name of three cogs that work together to make the gate at AfrikaBurn function. We are operational from Wednesday the 22nd of April right through to Friday the 1st of May.
The first cog is our Event Guardians. At the gate their main focus is directing traffic and making sure nobody gets run over. We are not recruiting for this role, because they are professionals and this is not their first rodeo. All I can say is: “Don’t drive like doos and do as they ask.”
Next we have Die Hek. They are the volunteers in the traffic lanes who welcome you to the Tankwa with a warm hello after you have parked your car.
They check that you have your ticket and ID as they point the way to the queue at the box office. When you return they will confirm that everybody who arrived in your vehicle has a wristband; even the stowaway that they found hidden under a precariously balanced cooler box. They will kindly wipe some dust off the windshield so that you can stick on the vehicle pass; and then wave you on your merry way.
Taking care of the volunteers’ wellbeing (make sure everyone’s hydrated and nobody passes out from the heat) as well as making sure things happen in an orderly-ish fashion are the Volunteer Wranglers, ‘team leaders’ if you like.
Lastly, we have the Box Office. Friendly volunteers (again) will check you in; link the wristband barcode to all the information you supplied when you bought your ticket. Secure the wristband and sell you an E toll if need be. And making sure that that section is a well oiled machine, are the Box Office Shift Leads.
The-buck-stops-here-kind-of- people who have a knack for problem solving.
Here are the roles we need to fill:
Die Hek Volunteers
Box Office Window Volunteers
For both of the above roles are looking for volunteers from 22 April to 1 May
Shifts are also 4 hours from when the shuttle picks you up till it drops you again.
A shuttle will drive you from the shuttle stop near the Volunteer Booth to the Gate and back.
Volunteer Wranglers,
Box Office Shift
Both of these roles require a little more time and commitment. They are ideal for people who have been looking for a way to really get immersed in our event. We are looking for somebody who can commit to multiple shifts over the course of build week and the event.
Training for all roles will be provided.
If you are keen, curious or intrigued but need more info, please click on this link so that we can get to know you better, or get the party conversation started.
We look forward to hearing from you.
PS: If a friend told you of a place where you make people roll in the dust and stuff. THIS is NOT THAT.
