The Skokie Trollie Clan is hosting 2 upcoming fundraising events to support bringing their artwork to AfrikaBurn this year.
The Skollie Trollie is a six-metre-tall wooden monument to modern madness. A bright yellow cathedral of consumption, built to be climbed, played on, and ultimately burned. Crafted from solid structural timber and screws (because capitalism always involves a bit of screwing), it gleams in oxide yellow – a golden idol to everything we buy, need, and discard.
Unlike your average shopping cart, this one won’t roll away. It stands still: a stationary spectacle in the desert, inviting Burners to clamber, lounge, and laugh at the absurdity of it all. The Trollie transforms a tool of commodification into a playground of irony and joy. A space for connection rather than consumption.
As dusk falls and the flames rise, the Skollie Trollie will meet its poetic end – a blaze of anti-commodified liberation.
Through play, performance, and fire, it asks: what happens when we stop shopping and start sharing? A reminder that even symbols of capitalism can burn beautifully, leaving nothing behind but laughter, dust and hopefully a new way of seeing value.
