Palm to Soul is a registered and granted community art project for AfrikaBurn 2026, created and led by Cape Town–based artist Jacques Mollentze. As the planning and making phase deepens, the project has entered an active period of fundraising, community gatherings, and volunteer onboarding.
Palm to Soul is an artwork, designed as a sanctuary for release, reflection, and shared presence in the Tankwa. The work will be built through communal effort, care, and contribution, in alignment with the AfrikaBurn principles of gifting, participation, and radical self-reliance.
Fundraising & Community Events
To support the material, transport, and build costs of the artwork, a series of small, independently run fundraising events are taking place in Cape Town. These gatherings are intended as moments of connection rather than commercial transactions, spaces where community comes together to support art, process, and each other.
One such event is Purpose, a multi-floor music and ritual fundraiser happening on 27 February in Cape Town. The event offers small glimpses into the spirit of the artwork while raising funds needed to realise it in the desert.

In addition to events, those who wish to support the project financially can do so via BackaBuddy
All funds raised go directly toward the real costs of building the artwork, including materials, transport, and logistics. Fundraising is conducted independently and is not organised by, affiliated with, or endorsed by AfrikaBurn.
Volunteers & Getting Involved
As the project moves closer to its build phase, Palm to Soul is also welcoming additional volunteers. Support is needed across planning, making, logistics, and on-site build in the Tankwa.
Anyone interested in contributing time, skills, or energy is invited to reach out directly:

Volunteering is approached as a shared journey rather than a task list — a chance to be part of something slow, intentional, and collectively held.
Following the Journey
Behind-the-scenes progress, concept development, and updates are shared openly as the work unfolds. Those who wish to follow along can do so via: @meander_and_co
Palm to Soul is offered as a gift to the AfrikaBurn community, built through belief, care, and collective effort. Whether through presence, participation, or quiet support, every contribution helps carry the work toward the desert.
