Boom!

Hear that? It’s the sound of you, along with 10,000 other dust lovers landing back in the default world after a wild ride at our annual family bonfire.

So, now what? How do you keep the flame alive, and share the principles of the burn with the wider world?
There’s a way – and it’s by becoming a Dust Devil.

Like those incredible spirals which are generated by the heat of a burn, Dust Devils propel the energy of our communal effort outward by supporting the many programmes that uplift, upskill and upscale both members of our community, and those that AfrikaBurn’s social initiatives are designed to assist.

Ena Hough from DPW (and past Elandsvlei scholar) helps to drop off this year’s collexodus donations.

One example is the life-changing support that teaching assistants at our nearby Tankwa school, Elandsvlei NGK School, receive. Along with the huge difference that your Collexodus donations make for the pupils at the school every year, funding support for teaching assistants helps our local community. Here’s what Anja Vos, Acting Principal at the school has to say about how AfrikaBurn’s support is creating better days for Tankwa kids:

“I can see improvements in all of the learners, in their mathematics, in their reading abilities, sounding out words, identifying words. Now with the extra support we can see improvements in the marks.”

Beyond the Tankwa, our programmes extend far and wide to places where members of our community are bringing the principles of the burn alive through Spark Grants – 11 of which were awarded to projects last year. From finger knitting workshops in Kimberly and George, to sewing projects in Ocean View, and beyond to murals in Maitland and indigenous board games in Mamelodi, the sparks are setting the spirit of our community alight.

Looking to bring the burn spirit alive, all year round? Ready to set the fire alight beyond the Binnekring? Step up, and become a Dust Devil.
