The Pancake People

Participants needed:
Our crew are from all over the world with certain things in common – we LOVE making other burners happy first ! No morning moodiness here lol. We get along with everyone, ie no hang ups and are incredibly emotionally mature to handle a week in the dust, partying and growing and still have endless capacity to create magic with a crew community and for the whole playa. We get our hands dirty, we ask what more can we do to help. We are at the burn to share and create together rather than simply receive. We are not all extroverts but we are all fun loving in our unique ways. We become family for many years after the event. We also love talented crew, so if you can juggle, perform, sing, do handstand pushups while being tickled and you have the biggest heart then reach out and let’s see if we have space for more pancake family for 2026.

Project Description:

The Pancake People has become one of the most loved Theme Camps at Afrikaburn. This is because of the crew’s overwhelming commitment to share love and joy that spreads from our camp like a blanket over the Playa. We do this at a time when most burners are hungover and moody from a night of partying and processing. We dance the night away just like every one else but then we wake up, wipe the sleep from our eyes, clean up, get the batter going, get the Dj going and then open our hearts to welcome in children and adults alike for the best morning experience you will ever have ! Burners walk into our camp grumpy and leave with a heart full of love to share with all the other burners they will meet that day. We have been doing this every morning for over 10 years on the trot and have a huge community of Pancake People lovers who come for their dose of love, joy and cinnamon! 

Details of Gift:

Pancakes, love and laughter till your heart is full ! From 9 till 11am to the sounds of electroswing with many many events held in our space throughout the day as it is a gifting space for all to use. Last year alone we had yoga mornings, Shibari workshop, painting workshop, swing dance, acoustic sessions, Taylor swift – swiftees takeover party, kids party, Sunset party, massages, poetry, dance to name just a few. Our space is yours to use to offer your gift.

Joining Requirements:

You need to be there for either building up or taking down the camp or both if you are a rockstar legend. Emotional maturity is a pre requisite as the burn can ask alot from you, yet you still need to show up for others. Able to get along with people from all walks of life and work and play well with others. A great sense of humour or desire for more fun. If you are creative that is super cool too ;) Don’t worry even though we love giving we also have plenty of time to receive as you are on shift for 2 mornings in the week.

The Sentinel

The Sentinel is a large-scale sculptural installation that embodies the journey of confronting fear and discovering the innocence that lies beneath it. At first sight, the piece presents itself as a towering, fearsome creature. A four-metre-tall humanoid tree, part rooted, part rising, as if it has just pulled itself from the desert floor. Its wooden limbs twist outward, its face leans downward, looming over those who approach. From below, visitors find themselves in a stare-down with the creature: a moment of primal confrontation, fear meeting fear. Participants are also invited to write a message on a paper tag and tie it to the artwork – words, phrases, or drawings that represent what holds them back. These offerings become part of the sculpture itself, fluttering like leaves in the wind.

Theme Camp
Alegra Space Station

Alegra Space Station first featured at the 2017 AB as a Charging Station, in 2022 we transformed into Space Station hosting travelling Burners ( and some Minions). Our focus is to create a basic but comprehensive and comfortable space for the Burners arriving from far while concentrating on what Afrikaburn really is, a community.
