Bombocart

Participants needed:
Most urgently we are looking for a mechanic who can get our trike to run (it has a poked gearbox, amongst other issues) and can keep it running throughout the burn. Second most urgent is someone with welding skills to make sure our trike can pull our trailer and that our trailer is sufficiently strong to carry our sound system. We have some very good decorators in our team already, but we could definitely use a helping hand in making our trike and trailer look like they belong at AfrikaBurn (and can pass DMV inspection). As the sound system is the main feature of our mutant, any help on that front would be very welcome: we want to build an old school wall of (passive) speakers, preferably old looking, but great sounding. So we will need amplifiers, crossovers, battery power, an inverter, and who knows what else. If any of those things are your speciality, please get in touch! Last, but not least we need help with raising the funds to make all of this happen. We have social media accounts and are currently running a Thundafund campaign, but we could use some help in managing all of these. Which would be a great role if you aren’t in Cape Town, since it would mainly be online.

Project Description:

TL/DR: Bringing a mutant vehicle to AfrikaBurn: a wall of speakers, pulled by a post apocalyptic trike.

We are building a mutant vehicle consisting of a Mad Max style trike, pulling a small trailer/cart with a DJ booth and sound system (think Jamaican style wall of speakers). We will be playing Drum&Bass, Industrial, Old School Jungle, Breaks, Metal, etc. Anything but the “fluffy stuff” you hear all over the burn.

Our trike is currently sounding like this: link to video Various mechanics have recommended to us to just forget about this trike since it sounds like the gearbox is poked (the three bottom gears are buggered) and it will cost to much to fix. If you are a mechanical genius that wants to help us get (and keep) this thing running on the Binnenkring, we need you!

It also still very much looks like a trike instead of a mutant vehicle, so we could use a hand in decorating and mutantizing it, as well as our trailer, which looks very much like “just a trailer”.

We also need to add a tow bar to our trike to get it top pull our trailer/cart, so if you a pro(ficient) welder, we could very much use your help as well!

Details of Gift:

Gifting music that breaks the mould of what seems to be the “AfrikaBurn sounds”

Joining Requirements:

Be on board with our mission and willing to help out making it a reality. Have time to spend before and during the burn. What we need beforehand is described in detail above. During the burn we need people to manage the mutant, the sound system, the DJs, keep everything safe (as in providing a safe space, and make sure no one gets run over), and making sure we leave no trace.

Additional Details:

We are based in Cape Town, so for helping out with mechanics, welding, deco, etc. before the burn we would need you here, preferably ASAP, but at least a few weeks before.
We are not registering a support camp, so if you are looming far a place to stay at the burn, it probably won’t be us. But we might be able to help you out finding a good spot.

Artwork
KwaNjakazi

KwaNjakazi is a participatory installation that embodies the core principles of AfrikaBurn through emotional connection, creative collaboration, and shared storytelling. The centerpiece—a human-sized dog house—symbolizes comfort, loyalty, and unconditional companionship, offering a reflective space for participants, particularly those missing their canine companions while on the playa. Guided by Participation and Creative Expression, the interior houses three large canvases and shared art materials, inviting anyone to contribute freely to a collective, evolving artwork. In alignment with Communal Effort and Immediacy, participants are encouraged to engage in the present moment—creating together, sharing stories, and forming spontaneous connections. A recording setup facilitates podcast-style conversations reflecting on the 11 Principles of AfrikaBurn, reinforcing Civic Responsibility, Ubuntu, and Radical Inclusion by amplifying diverse voices and lived experiences within the community. Through nostalgia, warmth, and vulnerability, KwaNjakazi creates a space of belonging and emotional resonance. By blending installation, performance, and storytelling, the work honors the human–canine bond while deepening participants’ engagement with AfrikaBurn’s values, ultimately enriching the collective festival experience.

Stage
Concept (The Plane!)

Concept is a massive (17m x15m), fixed-in-place, winged plane designed to land on the dusty expanse of AfrikaBurn. A sound-powered vessel of freedom, music, and magic. The open end of the fuselage will house a DJ booth, while the wings (7.5m long each!) become an interactive dancefloor or performance stage!
