AfrikaBurn is seeking a Theme Camp Coordinator to join their team in Cape Town and wrangle all the things Theme Camps, for its events, activities and projects.
Often at the coalface of community matters, this facilitative role sits within the Creative Portfolio and is the link between the volunteer Theme Camp Committee, volunteer Theme Camp Leads and the Operations team, it principally guides humans towards curating and creating a beautiful and engaging Tankwa Town.
As a people-facing part-time position with variable demands throughout the year, the Theme Camp Coordinator is required to work in various locations and work outside of standard office hours. Work is primarily sedentary in nature in town with no special demand. In the desert, however, work is of a physical nature, sometimes in adverse weather conditions.
Key responsibilities include:
Supporting the registration process for Theme Camp submissions
Reviewing and overseeing Theme Camp allocations
Placement and mapping of Theme Camps in Tankwa Town
Committee and community management
Public facing communications
Implementing and upholding policy
Fielding enquiries and facilitating creative projects and collaborations
Your required skills and competencies will be:
Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel as a minimum or Google Docs and Sheets
Project management – moving multiple projects forward
Data and trend mapping and analysis
Aptitude for online communications FaceBook, email and other platforms
Presentation and people skills
Sound understanding of Burn culture and the ethos of AfrikaBurn.
Teamwork, diplomacy and a service mentality
Confidence when tackling unforeseen or sensitive issues
Able to manage tight deadlines and needs of different role players
Self-motivation and flexibility
Driver’s license and preferably own transport
Your preferred attributes are:
Previous participation in AfrikaBurn especially in Theme Camp function
Experience in facilitation, mediation or community organizing
Experience leading team or group
Experience with volunteer recruitment, training and retention.
