Report from Quaggafontein event site:
It is with deep sadness that we report that on Thursday, May 1st, a 44 year old Swiss male participant passed away after collapsing on site at AfrikaBurn.
They were walking across the event site with a friend in the early evening when they unexpectedly collapsed to the ground. Nearby participants rapidly assisted and rushed them to our nearby on-site medical facility, where further diagnosis and attempts at resuscitation were made by the AfrikaBurn professional medical teams. Unfortunately, resuscitation was unsuccessful and the participant passed away on site.
AfrikaBurn would like to thank the participants who assisted on the scene, the AfrikaBurn medical team, Medics in Motion, Doctors in Motion, Medextreme and the South African Police Service for their prompt attention and care.
If anyone at the event witnessed the incident and would like access to confidential, specialist emotional support from our team, please contact support@afrikaburn.com
We expect further updates to follow, as next of kin are currently being notified. For any clarification on this statement, please contact directors@afrikaburn.com
END.

Rest in Peace friend <3
Thank you for beeing simply the best ❤️
Dave! You gave gifts of smiles, wisdom, generosity, and the best bum wigglying hugs to the camp and beyond. I could just tell you were one of the great guys. Now, I’ll never forget you and this experience of meeting and having to say goodbye all in a few just a few magical and then devastating days.
Dave, one of our last moments were sharing ‘Korean-hearts’ playing with our fingers and arms to express all the love sent both ways. It warmed my heart to see you smile and seeing you heading towards the playa. Know that we love you and we will keep dancing in spirit.
Can’t think of a moment you weren’t smiling and sharing your joy for life with those around you. I feel so grateful to have had the privilege of calling you a friend for a week, and wish we had longer. Rest in peace, love and laughter – my dear friend.
