Last year, we ran an experiment in which we installed a few well points in Tankwa Town, gifting a few thousand litres of non-potable water available for the community to use if they ran out. The feedback on this was overwhelmingly positive, so we’ve decided to do it again this year, but with 8 smaller well points dotted around the city instead of 4 big ones.

Does this mean that you still need to bring your own water to AfrikaBurn this year? … Yes, you still need to bring all the water that you need to survive in the desert.

Does this mean that you can have three showers a day? … No, we can only gift about 7000 litres in total, and if you divide that by the number of people in Tankwa Town, that’s not even a litre each. The well points are an experiment in community and are there for those who need a little extra beyond what they can bring, or for emergency moments when your bucket springs a leak or gets knocked over by a giant scorpion.
